ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the factors related to tympanic membrane perforation in children with acute suppurative otitis media, and to provide reference for clinical practice. Methods We reviewed the clinical data of 1274 children with acute suppurative otitis media from February 2017 to May 2020,and analyzed the factors related to tympanic membrane perforation. Results Tympanic membrane perforation occurred in 67 out of the 1274 children with acute suppurative otitis media, with the incidence of 5.27%.The univariate analysis showed that 11 factors including the duration of onset(

ABSTRACT

Objective: To study the curative effect of ofloxacin ear drops combined with Bairui Granules on acute suppurative otitis media in children. Methods: A total of 186 pediatric patients with acute suppurative otitis media treated in Qinhuangdao City Chinese Medicine Hospital were divided into the treatment group and control group according to the random number table method. In the treatment group, 94 patient were treated with 0.3% ofloxacin ear drops combined with Bairui Granules. In the control group, children in the 92 cases only received ofloxacin ear drops (2-3 times a day, 6-10 drops each time; After ear dropping, taking 10 min ear bath). Each group was treated 7-10 d. The curative effect and adverse reactions were observed. Results: The total effective rate of the treatment group was 94.68% and the control group was 82.61%, there was a significant difference between the two groups. (P < 0.05). The improvement in symptom and physical scores of the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between two groups. Conclusion: The ofloxacin ear drops can efficiently improve clinical symptoms of the patients with acute suppurative otitis media, and Bairui Granules have antipyretic and antiphlogistic effect. The combination of the two drugs had significant curative effect on acute suppurative otitis media in children with low adverse reactions incidence, so we conclude that it is worthy to be promoted.

ABSTRACT

We describe a previously healthy 2½-year-old boy with staphylococcal scarlet fever associated with acute suppurative otitis media due to community-associated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. The patient was successfully treated by spontaneous drainage in combination with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole therapy.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Infeared tympanic membrane thermometer (ITMT) provides an accurate estimate of tympanic membrane temperature in healthy children and may accurately reflect core body temperature. This study was undertaken to determine if temperature readings using this newly designed ITMT are affected by the presence of acute suppurative otitis media (ASOM) in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty children with unilateral acute suppurative otitis media were enrolled in the study. Temperature of ASOM was measured in both ears using ITMT and compared to 20 normal children. RESULTS: In acute suppurative otitis media, the mean temperature in infected ears was 1.28t higher than that in uninfected ears (p(0.05). The mean temperature of normal children was 36.34C and there was statistically significant difference between normal and unilateral acute otitis media. CONCLUSION: The ITMT was found to be accurate, rapidly responding and easy to use. It may help to diagnose acute unilateral suppurative otitis media combined with pneumatic otoscopy md tympanogram.
